Many people use the search feature within Windows Explorer to
search for their files but often find that they are unable to find the file
that they are specifically searching for or files just do not show-up when
searched in Windows Explorer. This typically becomes an issue when special
characters are used in the file name.
An example of a file name that may bring issues
when being searched: "Sample 121-059"
Either 'sample', '121', or '159' can
be searched and the file located.
If '121-059', '059', or
'Sample
121-059' are searched, the file does not
show in the list.
Although many have found other ways to find their files, there are still some
who prefer to use this method to search for their files.
It was found that special characters are not searchable in the
standard search ... to include them a "Wild Card" or '*' is
used in place of any special characters including '.,-, ,#'.
In the case of the sample above, the file will show in the results when '*121*059*'
is searched.
